Investment approach

The Fund follows a long-short equity strategy, taking positions in the cash and derivatives segment of listed equity stocks and indices. The portfolio is segregated into three different buckets consisting of core long, opportunistic, and hedging strategies. Each bucket has defined allocations, return expectations and hedging policies. Fundamental core long: The Fund shall hold long positions in stocks with strong business models, favoring companies where valuations are attractive, business quality as measured by cash flows, return on equity is high, and risk as measured by volatility is relatively low.Opportunistic trades: Opportunistic trades are ideas based on views around market events and near-term variable factors with a relatively short-term holding period. The Investment Team identifies companies that are undervalued or overvalued or there is a change in the fundamentals creating the potential for price movement in near term. The fund makes use of fundamental parameters which are then backed up technical signals to identify such opportunities. These positions may be held through cash equities, stock derivatives and / or index derivatives. For opportunistic trades we look for a 5-10% return potential over a 1-2 month horizon.Hedging strategies: The impeccable understanding and experience of investment team enables hedging the fund’s portfolio using stock and index derivatives effectively and systematically in times of market instability and heightened volatility to reduce drawdowns during these times.

To deliver consistent returns across market cycles; Discipline of regularly locking in profit & loss; Limits drawdown during periods of extreme volatility

Over last 15 years have built a strong track record of generating significant alpha across all market phases. Driven by the philosophy that one should marry their profits and not stocks, I seek opportunities where the risk reward balance is asymmetric. Getting the big picture right has been my forte which eventually has helped spot the global and domestic market trends early on. Was one of the earliest member of the equity desk at Reliance Industries' Treasury. I was instrumental in building and institutionalising the investment process, operations, research capabilities as well as scaling up and managing AUM of ~USD1bn.
